Spring 2007

Spring 2007 is offically over...this sub-web is officially closed for business...

Spring 2007 is officially over...This is the archived version of our Spring 2007 Sub-Web.....

Well, as you know, spring is here in Omaha can have many, varied weather patterns. It is not unusual to have snow, we always have lots of rain and then there's the odd tornados or three. Plus, to tell the truth, the temperatures can be up and down like a yo-yo. To put it mildly, the temperature can be very interesting.

So, in keeping with previous years, we are asking several questions for Spring 2007 in Omaha.

  • Will we get snow in spring [i.e. when will the last snow fall]??? Answer....no snow!!!

  • How much rain will we have this season???? Answer......Enough to make sure everything is nice and green....

  • How many tornados will we have this season??? Answer....actually, this Spring, none!!!!!....

  • What will the highest temperature be (i.e., when can we start wearing shorts again)???  Answer.....see below....

  • What will the lowest temperature for the season be (i.e., how long will we have to keep our winter coats out)??? Answer...see below......

  • How long will the war with Iraq take????? Answer...unfortunately, the war is still going strong and the US body count continures to increase on a daily basis, with absolutely no end in site....

  • When do we start attacking North Korea??? Answer...this fas, we may have been able to avoid this...but, only time will tell.....

All these questions, and many others, will be answered before the end of spring.

So, what's on the agenda for the Burton's in spring 2007....

Start of Spring...yippee....we've survived winter.

And so begins Spring 2007....

Sunday, April 1, thru Friday, April 6, 2007: Vacation -Las Vegas

Yup, it was that time of year again. Lisa was on Spring Break, so the webmaster decided to take some time off so we could both head to Vegas....the Mecca of gambling. While other places attempt to imitate it, there is only one Las Vegas......

On Sunday afternoon, April 1 [yup, April fools day], Lisa and the webmaster headed to the airport to fly to Vegas. As usual, Lisa took some really neat photos from the plane....it sort of makes a mockery of the webmaster's "planned and scheduled" photos....

We were staying at the Stratosphere, where we stayed two year ago. Hey, it was reasonably cheap ($50/day) and was close to the rest of the Vegas Strip.....

After a completely boring and uneventful flight [thankfully], it was time to find some thing to eat [Chinese] and then finally hit the casino. Mind you, our version of gambling are the penny slot machines and video poker....nothing too expensive!!!!

Anyway, after an early night and a nice sleep in, it was time for the Burtons to hot the Vegas trip. Mind you, not too much had changed since the Burton's were her in 2005...just lots of more building construction!!!!!!

After wandering around for most of the afternoon (we covered about 8miles on foot!!!), it was time to head to down town Vegas. It also has to be said the Lisa and the webmaster had an absolutely delicious lunch at an Italian restaurant called Maggiano's in the Fashion center. The food was fantastic!!!!

Anyway, after a brief [and slow!!!] bus trip, we landed in down town Vegas. For those of you who are even slightly interested, below is a small map of downtown Vegas.....

After a brief stop at Fitzgerald's Casino, it was time to head across the road to Binion's Horseshoe Casino to grab a place at the Bar to watch the NCAA basketball final between Ohio State University and Florida. While we were downtown we got to see the Fremont Street Experience, which is one of the coolest light show's you will ever get to see!!!!!

After a very disappointing dinner at the 777 Brewery at the Station Casino (see above map), it was time to wander around more Casino's (and only loosing about $5). After that, we headed back to the Stratosphere for a quick nightcap and then  bed!!!!!

And so started day two [2] in Vegas. After a very slow start (i.e., late in the afternoon), Lisa and the webmaster finally ventured outdoors. It was very pleasant to be able to sleep in, watch TV and generally do nothing!!!! Anyway, this time we headed even further south, down to Bellagio's (to pick up theatre tickets) and Mandalay Bay for dinner. Mandalay Bay is a genuine five stat hotel, and it thoroughly deserves the label. After dinner at the Red, White and Blue at Mandalay Bay, we headed back north to the Stratosphere via the Paris Casino, where we made dinner reservations for tomorrow night......

After wondering around various casino's for a couple of hours, it was time to head back to the Stratosphere for a couple of after dinner drinks and then bed. But, it is so hard to keep normal hours in this place...everything is open all night and, in fact, quite a lot of places don't even start until 2am in the morning!!!!

Anyway, speaking of weird sleep hours, we awoke to Day 3 [Wednesday, Tuesday 4]. Mind you, we didn't actually get started until about 5pm, at which time it was time to head out for dinner, at a really cool French place called Mon Ami Gabi, at the Paris Casino.

The first photos are of some of our winning tickets at the Stratosphere Casino.....they are just to prove that we sometime do actually win some money!!!!!

After dinner, it was off to the theatre at Bellagio's Casino.....this time to see Circque Du Soleil, the "O" theatre. This is the one performed on or in the water. While both Lisa and the webmaster cannot decry the technical perfection of the performance, the performance itself was extremely lackluster, even boring if you will. However, that being said, both Lisa and the webmaster were extremely glad they went and saw the theatre!!!!

Again, wondering back to the Stratosphere, it was time again for the start of Day 3 in Vegas...

Again, on Thursday we raised ourselves out of bed extremely late (after eating Pizza in our hotel room). Then, it was time to head up to the bar at the top of the Stratosphere for a quiet drink. The view was fantastic and I somehow thing that the photos will not do them justice....but here we go anyway..

After a final dinner at the Rivera Casino, we did head back to the hotel for a final time. By the way, here were our final winning tickets from the Stratosphere....

And so, that was pretty much our Spring 2006 trip to Vegas!!!

On Firday,April6,it was time for us both to leave Vegas and return to Omaha. Mind you, when we left Vegas it was 90F (32C).....when we landed in Omaha, it was a nice toasty 34F (1C).Man, talk bout a temperature difference..

And on rolls Spring 2006....

Friday, April 6, 2007:

Where will be and what will we be doing????

Well. the answer to that question was very easy....on Good Friday (4/6), Lisa and the webmaster were on their way back to Omaha from Las Vegas. By the time we made it back, neither of us felt like doing too much, so we just hung around at home. Also, as the webmaster had to go back to Valpo on the Monday, we decided that it would be wiser to have a quiet weekend at home!!!!

And that was our Easter 2007. And on rolls Spring

Sunday, April 15, 2007

Still not quite sure why we included this one is here. This is the day that every tax payer hates: Tax Day. All tax payers must have their tax returns either into the IRS or the envelopment must be stamped by today. The even crazier thing is that 33 million Americans will spend today racing about to either get filings complete, or file for extensions. All post office's are open until midnight to accommodate these idiots. The really dumb thing is: this date DOES NOT CHANGE!!!!. We all know it's coming, year after year. How much brain power does it take to be a little bit organized (especially with the IRS...the crowd that brought down Al Capone). Screw this midnight crap!!!!

Anyways, as usual, we had all our returns filed on time.......

Monday, April 23, thru Friday, April 27, 2007: Valparaiso -Last Time:

On Tuesday, April 17, 2007, the webmasters contract at CSI in Valparaiso was terminated. Oh well, shit happens. We weren't really surprised and, to be honest, we're weren't that upset about it either. Mind you, this happened while the webmaster was in Omaha, so, on Monday, April 23, 2007, the webmaster made his final trip to Valparaiso, Indiana. This time to shut down the apartment.

And so, on Monday, the webmaster arrived in Valparaiso. A week was spent packing up, shipping things back to Omaha and catching up with some of the people I'd met and drank with over the last three years....

At the end of  the week, Friday April 2007, it was time to blow this popsicle and get out of Dodge on the first available stage coach....yeah!!!!!

And on rolls Spring 2007...minus Valparaiso, Indiana.....

Monday, May 7, thru Friday, May 11, 2007: Seattle, Washington:

What the webmaster failed to mention in the previous posting was that by the time he left Valparaiso, he already had a job. This time with a crowd out of Omaha, headed up by a good friend of the webmaster's who had known for some twenty (20) years since back at the ANZ in Melbourne, Australia. Anyway, part of the job involves dealing with a customer out in Seattle Washington (for at least part of the time initially). So, on Monday, May 7 2007, the webmaster headed out to Seattle, Washington....

Let the webmaster tell you, Seattle, Washington, is a dammed site better that Valparaiso. For one thing, it's bigger that a postage stamp. the people are friendly, and you don't have to worry about every second person being a member of the KKK (Ku Klux Klan). Here are some photos of the Seattle skyline..

And so, that was the webmasters first trip to Seattle. You can bet it won't be the last......

Again, on rolls Spring 2007....

Monday, May 28, 2007

Where will be and what will we be doing???

To paraphrase our previous entries for Memorial Day...absolutely nothing. Besides catching up with our friend Bryan Boll on the Friday before Memorial day [Monday], about the only thing Lisa and the webmaster did over the entire weekend was to go out for Dinner on Sunday night. Of course, there were the normal chores to be done...cutting the grass, etc, but that was about it.

It also seems appropriate to make the following statement: Memorial Day in the USA is the day when we pay our respects to those that have died in the military service of the US (World Wars I, II, Korea, Vietnam, first Gulf War, etc). It seems horrific that the US military death toll in Iraq now stands at 3,451. God knows how many have been wounded as the pentagon no longer releases those sorts of statistics.

However, on a lighter note, we did take some more photos of the landscaping completed last year. There were two reasons for this: (1) to prove that we hadn't killed too much [which we hadn't]; and (2) to set the tone for more landscaping work to be done this coming spring and summer. Anyway, here they are...the Burton's of Omaha's regal estate in full [well, semi full] spring bloom....

Anyway, that was Memorial Day 2007. And on rolls spring......

Sunday, June 10, 2007:  Landscaping Preparations

As the previous entry stated, we are getting ready for landscaping changes. These photos are a prelim to the actual changes.....enjoy....

There should be more photos over the next few weeks as the landscaping changes start to be made...

This corresponds to an on time percentage of 50%....This is not real good. It just goes to prove that all US airlines are as crappy as each other!!!!!

Well, that enough about travel. For all you weather fans out there, without further ado, here are the season's weather statistics

This will be the last posting of the season 2007. Spring is officially over,  and summer is with us. Mind you, not that the weather has changed to much in the last few days. And, now for some season statistics:

So, that's pretty much been our Spring 2007. Alas  therefore, this will probably be the last update for season 2007 (unless we remember something really fantastic that happened!!!). Hope you've all had as much fun watching this season unfold as much as we have. In case you haven't guessed, the next Spring posting will be in late March 2007...see ya'all back then. Enjoy the rest of the year. Ya'all come back, ya hear!!!!!
